Adam Sutcliffe is a Trade Union official and union representative for EIS Aberdeenshire (Educational Institute of Scotland). For Friday Lunch, which this week took place on the week of May Day or International Workers' Day, Adam joined us to speak about how and why Trade Unions have risen in importance over the last few years and what has driven so many of them to be involved in industrial action. Adam also talked about how the EIS developed its recent successful Pay Attention campaign – which secured a historic pay rise for Scotland's teachers – and gave an insight into his role as a Trade Union official and its links with his substantive role as a teacher.
Lunch by Kawther Luay: carrot & lentil soup, whey sourdough, peanut butter cookies
About Friday Lunch
The sharing of food is a great leveller. Every other Friday, we invite people to speak about topics that relate to art, ecology, birds, politics or many other threads of Huntly life. At 1pm our team, along with artists and whoever else wants to join us, have lunch together and get involved in this sharing of knowledge. All are welcome to join – just turn up on the day! We have a donations pot at this event, and suggest a donation of £2 which goes towards the cost of ingredients and any access needs for the speaker. More info can be found below the programme of speakers.
