May Food Chain was led by our current Erasmus+ Intern Anita Krasowska, who chose to share how to make sweet and savoury Pierogi, a staple recipe from her Poland homeland.

You can check out Anita's recipe here.

A note from Anita –

I chose pierogi to make for the Food Chain because it’s all about my childhood. Polish people typically make pierogi for Christmas and the same it was in my family. I remember days before Christmas Eve when I (in that time let’s say age 7), my mum and my grandmother were making pierogi for a few hours. But my memory is not only about making or boiling pierogi, not even about eating them, but it’s more about the whole process – chatting, laughing and having fun during cooking. What I like the most about them is that pierogi is a traditional Polish dish but every family has its own recipe and they always taste differently even if they have the same filling.
Oh.. I must say that the filling is the whole magic about pierogi. It can be soooo various! For Christmas Poles usually eat them filled with sauerkraut and mushrooms, but meat, beans or groat will work too. And don’t forget about cheese – we have another very famous type of pierogi (called Ruthenian dumplings/ pierogi ruskie) filled with quark, potatoes and onion. But this time I decided to make pierogi filled with fresh fruits because it’s my favourite type of pierogi. Bon appetit! Smacznego!
