We’re inviting artists* working in Aberdeenshire to join us for a relaxed Artists’ Social at Square Deal in Huntly.

Artists’ Socials are just what they say on the tin – a chance for artists to socialise. Come along, create connections and be a part of a supportive creative community here in Aberdeenshire.

Socials are on the 4th Wednesday of the month, with a different focus each time. This could be an informal studio visit with an artist-in-residence at Deveron Projects, a materials swap, practical knowledge-building sessions on how to access support for your practice, among many other possibilities! What we focus on each month will be led by you, and everyone who comes along, with the support of Deveron Projects.

We hope these social events will offer mutual support and networks to enrich and develop your practice, whichever form this may take.

Details for the November Artists' Social:

To kick off, Sarah Forrest and Virginia Hutchison, artists in residence at Deveron Projects, invite you into their studio for a natter and to hear more about their collaborative project, In the Shadow of the Hand, on Wednesday 23 November, from 6 -7:30pm..

Since their collaboration began in 2012, In the Shadow of the Hand has brought Virginia and Sarah’s independent practices into conversation. Their work together incorporates writing, printmaking, object making, performance and film in order to explore the relationship between an art object and the language that surrounds it.

~ This meetup is open to any artist living/working in Aberdeenshire or visiting – we have written a bit more about this at the bottom of this page

~ Please let us know if you are coming by emailing our Producer, Jenny, on jenny@deveron-projects.com, sending us a DM or giving us a call on 01466 794494.

~ Coming on your own and don’t know anyone else yet? Don’t worry, this is a great way to meet people! We’re a friendly bunch and you will always get a warm welcome. Get in touch if you would like to be connected with a ‘buddy’ beforehand.

Access: The artists' house is on the first floor, accessed via a flight of stairs or the lift. There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor. The front door is a short distance (around 20m) along the lane next to Square Deal. There is a variety of seating available upstairs, including stools, chairs and a sofa.
Babies, children and family members (bio/non-bio) are very welcome – let us know if you are bringing someone with you. If there is anything we can put in place to help you feel comfortable at this event, please get in touch.

*Artists take many forms and make different types of work. This might include, but is not limited to: painting, sculpting, drawing, performing, singing, walking, dreaming, facilitating, collaborating, writing, playing music, creating, thinking, growing, cooking… You do not need to have studied art, shown your work publicly, or be making things regularly to be an artist.
