We’re inviting artists* working in Aberdeenshire to join us for a relaxed Artists’ Social at Square Deal in Huntly.
Artists’ Socials are just what they say on the tin – a chance for artists to socialise. Come along, create connections and be a part of a supportive creative community here in Aberdeenshire.
Socials are a regular monthly event, with a different focus each time. This could be an informal studio visit with an artist-in-residence at Deveron Projects, a materials swap, practical knowledge-building sessions on how to access support for your practice, among many other possibilities! What we focus on each month will be led by you, and everyone who comes along, with the support of Deveron Projects.
We hope these social events will offer mutual support and networks to enrich and develop your practice, whichever form this may take.
Details for the January (now February!) Artists' Social:
At the last meet up, we talked a lot about studios and workspaces so in January, we focused on that: how we work, what we need to work well, what happens in those workspaces and how we create ‘space’ for our practices in busy lives.
This time, we invited artists to bring along something from their studio (in whatever form that studio may take- there were quite a few kitchen tables, sheds and spare rooms mentioned last time!) to exchange, swap and share. This could be something you have been holding on to – a material, object or tool that you know is useful but you can’t find a use for. Or it could be something you have loads of and won’t use, or even something you just can’t throw away! Perhaps your unused thing is what someone else needs to take their practice in a new direction. It is okay if you do not have anything to swap!
We were also thinking in more depth about what kind of studio provision we all need and how to find those spaces in Aberdeenshire.

Access: Square Deal has level access from The Square, Huntly. There is an accessible toilet up a ramp, with baby changing facilities. The seating is folding metal chairs with backs and no arms. Babies, children and family members (bio/non-bio) are very welcome – let us know if you are bringing someone with you. If there is anything we can put in place to help you feel comfortable at this event, please get in touch.
*Artists take many forms and make different types of work. This might include, but is not limited to: painting, sculpting, drawing, performing, singing, walking, dreaming, facilitating, collaborating, writing, playing music, creating, thinking, growing, cooking… You do not need to have studied art, shown your work publicly, or be making things regularly to be an artist.
