Throughout September, artist, bodyworker and herbalist Ju Scott joins us on residency as part of our ongoing project, Caretakers Garden.
Based in the Brander Garden, Ju will use this public, communal space as an artist’s studio – exploring the garden and getting to know its inhabitants, both human and more-than-human. Connecting with the garden through sound, movement, smell, taste and meditation will offer alternative ways of understanding this space, sharing its offerings and caring for the garden community’s diverse needs.
Over the month, Ju will work with gardener-in-residence and carer, Lindy Young, and the gardens volunteers, to begin the process of creating a sustainable care plan for the garden. Alongside this Ju will share aspects of the garden and their movement and sound practice with the Numero Uno group, who are currently unable to physically access the space (it is not wheelchair accessible). Ju will work with the group and Lindy to develop movement scores to interpret and enjoy together after the residency ends.
This project is part of Deveron Projects’ Culture Collective project, The School of Vernacular Skills.
