Pride of Place Project

Seriously thought provoking, distressingly perceptive, beautifully absurd

The Caravan Gallery

The Caravan Gallery were in Huntly in Summer 2013 to do a project about pride of place.

The Caravan was placed in the Square where the artists exhibited their observational photographs that they had taken in advance to capture people's imaginations and show them that they want to discover an alternative view of the town, in order to celebrate the quirks of their place. They created a map of the town of Huntly and asked visitors to the Caravan to mark places of interest on the map. The result included places that are good for 'amorous liaisons' and problem areas for dog fouling. The Caravan also housed an exhibition of 'local souvenirs' which included River Deveron water, Huntly Harling and Sheep's wool. Finally, the Pride of Place survey was on hand for people to answer questions about Huntly such as 'What attractions or hidden treasures would you show visitors?', 'What slogan would you put on a 'Welcome to Huntly' sign?' and 'What pictures would you put on a postcard of Huntly?'.
