Write right now. Let it all out – play, move and shout. Exploring themes of healing, community and what it is to the an ‘outsider’ this workshop is for all levels to come explore new ways of creating, feeling and belonging.

An experienced writer who places her poetic practice at the heart of writing for the stage, screen and radio, Debris Stevenson lead a writing workshop as part of Healing Monsters programme. Debris is also a performer, director, producer, dancer, educator, speaker and presenter who aims to create great art for real social change – she is not scared to create new forms to do so.
The artist embeds healing and wellbeing into her writing practice and in her words, being a good artist is being a healthy person – this is to say that a sense of wellbeing and contentment allows us to work well, with energy and creativity. In the same vein, writing itself – active and engaged – can and often is mindful, grounded and places us in the present. For this final Healing Monsters event, Debris shared her own methodologies for writing and letting it all out in playful ways, with your inner "editor" turned off.

“At the start of any writing process I remind myself that if I want to write something brilliant I have to first be open to the possibility (if not certainty) of writing something terrible. So let’s all be terrible together and write at least 10 pieces of something each in 90 minutes.”
