Last month, we welcomed artist Caroline Wendling back to Huntly to continue working on the White Wood, a wood of over one thousand trees, shrubs and flowers created in 2016 to represent peace. The current phase of the project is focused on signage – defining and marking routes for people to walk to the White Wood.
Whilst in residence, Caroline has been working with Scottish Sculpture Workshop and The Gordon Schools to create over 40 waymarkers – intricate bronze sculptures that will be placed on the route between Huntly Train Station and the White Wood.
On Saturday 28 August, we were inviting people to join us at Scottish Sculpture Workshop to view a live bronze pour, a stunning process of heating and pouring bronze into a ceramic cast made through the 'lost wax' method. Through the demonstration, the audience learned the complicated process that Caroline had worked through to create these oak-inspired artworks. Participants also had a chance to help finish the sculptures which will sit in the ground in Huntly for hundreds of years to come (we hope!).
