Danish artist Eva Merz came to Huntly in 2003, looking at the effect global commerce on local businesses. Her project focused on the empty shops, one of which she rented, turned into her studio, declared it a Modern Monument and created tourist merchandise for it. A delicate and curious pencil drawing of a piece of wallpaper with lighter center area, this artwork suggests there was once a picture which is now missing-just like the shops of which only a memory remains.
Accessibility: Orb’s Bookshop is wheelchair-accessible and this artwork can be viewed when the shop is open (Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm). Closest parking is available in the Square or in Castle Street.
