The Barter Shop relaunched on Sat 6th Aug in Square Deal. Forming part of Kawther Luay’s project, The Gathering Table, the Barter Shop is an experiment in non-monetary exchange, gifting and sharing. At the beginning of 2023, the shop moved from inside Square Deal to the Honesty Cart outside.
All that is required to set the Barter Shop in motion is the willingness to offer a gift that you wish for someone else to have. You can swap it for something in the shop that has been gifted by someone else in return.
Bring along a drawing, a joke, your presence, your story, a bundle of herbs, a box of fresh eggs, or any surplus produce this abundant summer has provided- and exchange it with whatever takes your fancy. To launch the Barter Shop, Kawther will stock it with beautiful, wild, handmade items. She will be offering recipes, postcards, spice blends, savoury salts and teas; gathered and collated throughout her one to one foraging walks.
