All interested in creating a healthier habitat for wildlife in their garden and spending less time mowing the lawn and do the environment some good at the same time, could join us on this September Tuesday for a wild meadow workshop with ecologist John Malster and gardener Lindy Young.

On the seed saving walk, through the Meadows and along the Deveronside in Huntly, we established what should and could be grown in a truly native perennial* meadow in this area. We learned how to collect wild seeds and how to establish a wild meadow in our gardens or public spaces, and finished off at the Community Orchard with refreshments and further discussion.

*perennial – perennial plants grow back every year

Walk route:
We left the Brander Garden on McVeagh Street at 5:30pm and walked towards Huntly Castle, then through the carpark at the Nordic Ski Centre, through the park and along the side of the Deveron River, using the paths provided. We took a sharp left away from the river, and walked through the Meadows to join up with the carpark at the Community Orchard, where the walk ended.
