For August's Farmers' Market, we were joined by current project artist Januario Jano who's in Huntly developing Sonic Border, a project exploring migration, assimilation and displacement through plants, people and birds. Januario has a particular interest in the Common Swift population that migrates back and forth every year from the Congo Basin (Southern Africa) to Huntly, and the Farmers' Market was situated right beneath one of their favourite play grounds – the Square!
At the market, we were sharing the sounds of the migratory birds that travel from across Africa up to Northern Europe each year and in addition to chatting and sharing interesting facts about about migratory birds, Januario was inviting everyone for a wee meet and tweet – to make bird sounds with whistles, hands, grass, or any other means available! We made owl, seagull and swift sounds, some so im-peck-able that Januario might use the recordings in his project.
