Join us in our first online Food Chain, to learn how to make a homely Iraqi family meal of Chicken Turmeric Broth with Broad Bean and Dill Rice. Redolent with the deep and sharp aroma of black preserved limes, this homely dish is easy to make but very comforting and rewarding.
During the month of Ramadan, communities abstain from food until sunset each day (or the time of sunset as observed in Mecca, for those living in very northern latitudes where sunset would be much later). Every day the fast is broken with a feast, fulfilling the longing to share meals with family and friends – never more accute than during the current lockdown.
This simple, humble and nutritious everyday family recipe would normally be added to a larger feast of dishes when observing Ramadan with an extended community.

Having been resident in Huntly since last summer, and having worked on our Neep & Okra project since then, Kawther is currently exploring Ramadan in her own time through the series of events Month of Sunsets, in collaboration with writer Lynda Wardle and the Stay At Home Literary Festival.
Food Chain Explained:
Food Chain is an ongoing series of workshops connecting folk and food. Each month we invite a local to share with us a simple, traditional recipe from near and far; together we learn the dish and gain a deeper appreciation for the rich wealth of cuisines and backgrounds in our community!
They happen on the last Monday of each month from 6pm.
