Everything Gardens
Bill Mollison
The Town is the Garden began in 2017 with Joss Allen (Green Coordinator), Camille Sineau (Project Assistant) and Lindy Young (Project Gardener), and was joined by Caroline Gatt (Project Assistant) in 2018 and Rhian Davies (Project Assistant) in 2020.
For three years the Town is the Garden team could be found at the margins of the garden. Amongst the weeds and compost heaps, they explored what it might mean to think with the garden. Through crafting gardens, vegetable plots and orchards they attempted to rethink how a community might feed itself as it faces up to the global climate and ecological emergency. Through the processes of learning and sharing skills in relation to growing food, from planting seeds to preserving the harvest, they asked how we might also begin to pay better attention to the entanglement of human and more-than-human worlds. They asked how might the garden be a site of both resistance and resilience? A place for thinking and doing ecology, otherwise.
