About Food Chain
Which rich culinary backgrounds do we have resident in our own community? Come along to our monthly group cook-along to learn someone else’s recipes, where together we’ll learn about each other’s cultural backgrounds as we cook. All are welcome to join, but please email misa@deveron-projects.com prior to the event to book your space! We have a donations pot at this event, and suggest a donation of £5 which goes towards the cost of ingredients and any access needs for the speaker. More info can be found below the programme of recipe contributors.

Next Food Chain:

Oscar Williamson: Sri Lankan Hoppers
Mon 30th October, 6-8pm, Square Deal

For October’s Food Chain, Oscar Williamson is going to show us how to make his favourite Sri Lankan Hoppers – thin, bowl-shaped pancakes made from rice flour, named after the pan they are traditionally cooked in. We’ll also make some sambols (chutneys), spiced potatoes and cauliflower to fill the hoppers with!

A note from Oscar:  “Hoppers and sambols are light and delicious, easy to make and hard to mess up! They also happen to be gluten free and vegan. The fermentation process of making hoopers creates a slight sourness, which perfectly sides the sweet coconut. The sambols are sweet, spicy and sour which make them perfect to fill inside a crispy hopper. They are vibrant with colours and burst with flavour.”

Email misa@deveron-projects.com to book your space!

Food, donations and accessibility

We have a donations pot at this event, and suggest a donation of £5 which goes towards the cost of ingredients and any access needs for the speaker. It is completely optional to donate, with the £5 being only a guideline; if you’d like to donate less or more, that’s very welcome too! We can only accept donations in cash.

If you have any dietary requirements we should know of or other accessibility requirements, for example if you’ll require a highchair, contact our Art & Community Worker Misa on misa@deveron-projects.com.

Home Programme

This event is part of the Home Programme, a series of regular community events taking place at Deveron Projects programmed by our Art & Community Worker. The Home Programme celebrates local knowledge and experience, and explores what it’s like to live and work in and around Huntly. It includes Friday Lunch, as well as the monthly Food Chain cookery workshop and stall at the Huntly Farmers’ Market. If you’d like to contribute to the Home Programme, or know someone who you’d love to hear from, fill out the form below with their name(s) and what they do! Form link also available here.
